Supporting Mental Health Resources Locally on International Day of Giving

Today is Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year. In response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday was created and has become an international movement that allows you to  practice local  generosity. It unites the collective power of nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals to incite change through giving time, money and other resources. Since 2018, at United Way WRC, Giving Tuesday has been a day to rally our community around a specific local issue.

Donations on this Giving Tuesday, November 30th, will be directed to United Way WRC’s Improving Mental Health Fund. This fund supports services across Waterloo Region like:

  • Crisis & trauma support for youth
  • Walk-in counselling
  • Domestic violence prevention & supports
  • Counselling accessibility via subsidies and online programming
  • Supports geared towards marginalized communities
  • Addictions treatment and harm-reduction programs
  • Support workers for individuals with complex needs

Mental health looks different for everyone. Together we can support everyone that needs it.

Mental health issues have increased due to the pandemic and resources are strained due to the greater demand. No one should have to face mental health problems alone and this Giving Tuesday United Way wants to support local agencies as they continue to build an effective network of programs in the region.
