How to apply

Applications are open to any registered charity or qualified donee located and operating in Waterloo Region.

  • There are two streams of funding. Please see details below and in the Application Guides provided.
  • Maximum amount per grant is $50,000
  • We recognize that agency needs extend beyond three months. For that reason, an agency is able have the same application considered in the next funding period, providing updated information as necessary (e.g. budget, emerging needs). For more information on when and how to do this, please speak with United Way Community Investment staff.


Q4 Funding

Fall 2022 Applications (funding for the term January to March 2023)

Applications open: September 12th to 30th 2022 (closes at 4:00 pm)

Decisions Communicated to Agencies: October 31st to November 4th, 2022

During this round of applications, United Way will be granting $182,000 from The Tomorrow Fund. The grants from The Tomorrow Fund will be focused on programs/and or organizations that serve the communities of Cambridge & North Dumfries and address emerging or long-term community needs through new or innovative programs, initiatives that address capacity building and long-term sustainability initiatives will also be considered. If you would like to be considered for this grant please indicate it in your application.

This grant money has been made possible through the generosity of donors who have established an enduring legacy through United Way.

General Operating Support (GOS)

These grants are intended to support an organization’s ability to achieve its mission overall. This type of grant is flexible and allows grantees to allocate funds towards self-identified organizational priorities in order to develop and strengthen their internal systems.

Program/Project Grants

These grants support specific programs or projects of an organization. This type of grant allows grantees to focus on specific aspects of their work. Programs/projects can be new or existing.
