What we do
Campaign for a cause
United Way Waterloo Region Communities has changed the way we fundraise. Focused, cause-based giving ensures local agencies, programs, and services get the critical funding they need, and allows donors to direct funds to causes that are meaningful to them and see the impact of their donations.
Taking Action on Housing & Homelessness
Housing is a fundamental need. It provides the foundation for individual health & wellbeing, developing positive social interactions and being engaged in your community.
Empowering Safety & Wellbeing
A lack of safety looks different across the community, it is individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, 2SLGBTQ+ community members experiencing homophobia and transphobia, and community members facing discrimination and hateful messages.
Building Social Connections
Relationships are vital to our mental and physical health and wellbeing and to our greater community. A lack of opportunities for connection, whether due to the pandemic, or pre-existing barriers, affects our ability to maintain a strong support system and can diminish our quality of life.
Increasing Food Security
Food security requires consistent access to healthy and nutritious food that is culturally appropriate and meets a person’s dietary needs in order to live a healthy and happy life.
Supporting Children and Youth
The pandemic has taken a toll on the children and youth in our community. They are feeling lonely, isolated, and are falling behind in school.
Advancing Equity
Not all community members have equitable access to the opportunities available. This can be because of language, available resources, experiences with systemic racism and historical trauma, homophobia & transphobia, ableism and other factors.
Advocating for Mental Health
Sudden job loss, grief, or other trauma can take a major toll on anyone. Ability to access crucial supports are that much harder for marginalized members of our community such as for those experiencing poverty, racism, or homophobia.
Providing Essential Life Skills & Supports
Lack of access to opportunities that help develop employment skills, basic life skills, and access to adaptive devices are exponential impediments to success.
Driving Innovation
Innovative solutions are needed to move our local non-profit sector forward. Donations will help drive our local social sector allowing them to adapt and do things differently to meet the complex needs of our community members.
Strengthening Community Leadership
A healthy, vibrant community depends on building strong leaders, those that lead a vital network of services and supports today, as well as our future leaders.
