FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Waterloo Regional Labour Council to Host Annual Labour Day Picnic, Stressing the Power of a United Movement

WATERLOO, ON – The Waterloo Regional Labour Council (WRLC) is proud to announce its annual Ed Weidinger Memorial Labour Day Picnic, a cherished tradition bringing together workers, their families, and the community to celebrate the hard-won gains of the labour movement and to rally for a stronger future. The picnic will take place on Monday, September 1, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Waterloo Park (Westmount Road Entrance).

This year’s event comes as the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) highlights the theme of “Workers Together,” emphasizing the critical importance of solidarity in the face of ongoing economic challenges and threats to workers’ rights. The CLC’s campaign focuses on fighting corporate greed, ensuring job security, and demanding fairness for all working people.

The Ed Weidinger Memorial Labour Day Picnic offers a day of family-friendly fun, with food, live music, and a dedicated kids’ area featuring face painting. All items will be available for just $1, with all proceeds going to support the vital work of the United Way Waterloo Region Communities.

“Labour Day is more than just a day off; it’s a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we stand together,” said Mike Miller, President of the Waterloo Regional Labour Council. “The challenges facing workers in our region and across the country—from rising costs of living to precarious work—make it more important than ever for us to build our movement. When working people unite, we have the power to create a better deal for ourselves and for our communities.”

Miller continued, “This picnic is a chance to celebrate our collective power and to strengthen the bonds of solidarity. We invite everyone—union members and non-union members alike—to join us, bring their families, and be part of building a movement that can secure a more just and equitable future for all.”
