United Way Waterloo Region Communities exists to serve everyone in our community—children, families and individuals who need help. By fundraising for our partner agencies and programs we enable those partners to focus on delivering effective, and efficient solutions. Funding from United Way helps sustain a large network of services ranging from counselling programs to emergency food and shelter.
On February 8th, 2018 United Way Waterloo Region Communities announced the formation of an Opioid Fund.
Donations to this fund will be earmarked to respond to the opioid crisis in our region. We will work with our existing partners to determine how best to invest these funds in the areas of prevention and education, especially to the benefit of children and young people—and we’ll get those dollars to work quickly, dispersing them within months.
United Way’s stake in the ground is to change the power of poverty. The opioid crisis is as connected to poverty as homelessness, food insecurity, and every other issue that keeps almost 70,000 people living at or below the poverty line.
If you’re looking to make a donation which will have a real and measurable impact on an immediate issue, we believe the Opioid Fund is deserving of your consideration. Please ensure your donation says “Opioid Fund” in the comments box. Thank you !
